This site was developed by the Canadian Council on Social Development, to provide a central repository for Social Indicator material on the Internet. Social indicators are measures of well-being which assess such things as school performance, life expectancy, or our population's health, and which can provide important information upon which to base public policy decisions.
To further the development of social indicators in Canada, the CCSD, with the support of Human Resources Development Canada, convened a two-day symposium in Toronto on October 4th and 5th, 1996.
