The Personal Security Index 2003
(by Spyridoula Tsoukalas and Andrew MacKenzie, November 2003)
The Personal Security Index (PSI), now in its fifth year, is an innovative measure that compares hard data on the economy, health and crime (the Data Index) to polling information on how Canadians perceive they are faring in these three areas (the Perception Index). This year the PSI found that Canadians have a little more spending money in their pockets and more confidence in their job security, but they are less satisfied with the ability of their incomes to meet their basic needs – and increasingly anxious about Canada’s health and social safety nets.
