Measuring Well-Being: Proceedings from a Symposium on Social Indicators

Work is underway in Canada to develop new measures
of well-being that go beyond tradional economic
indicators such as the rates of employment and
inflation. At a symposium hosted by the CCSD in
October 1996, 75 leading social policy analysts
gathered to dicuss ways of furthering Canadian work in
this important area. This report contains a record of
the discussions during that two-day event, and the full
text of a presentation by Dr. Heinz-Herbert Noll of West
Germany, entitled "Social indicators and the
international experience."
