POLICY INITIATIVES

Our mission is to develop and promote progressive social policies inspired by social justice, equality and the empowerment of individuals and communities.

The CCSD is active on the social policy front, organizing and supporting consultations on social development issues and advocating for advancements in policies that affect the lives of Canadians.

Policy Statements, Briefs and Submissions

CCSD prepares and presents numerous policy papers, including budget briefs and responses, and submissions to various commissions. You can find most of these policy papers, from the mid-nineties to the present, in this section.

The Voluntary Sector Initiative (VSI)

The VSI aims to build a new and more effective relationship between the voluntary sector and the federal government. The Council sits on the Senior Steering Group and Working Group on Finance, and has been active on issues related to the enhancement of the financing and sustainability of voluntary sector organizations.

Mt. Tremblant Think Tank on Social Development

In partnership with the Coalition of National Voluntary Organizations (NVO) and United Way Canada, the CCSD invited 60 leaders in the voluntary sector to discuss ways of putting social development back on the governments' political agendas.

Annual Consultation of Social Service Administrators

Each year, the Council co-chairs a consultation of policy-makers from municipalities and provincial governments across Canada to debate issues related to social development and economic security. This annual consultation is held in a different city each year.
