CCSD welcomes new Executive Director

Marcel LauzièreThe CCSD Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Marcel Lauzière has been appointed Executive Director of the of the Council, effective January, 2000. He will replace David Ross, who has served as Executive Director since 1994.

Mr. Lauzière comes to the CCSD from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, where he held the position of Special Advisor to the President and Director, Corporate Liaison and Innovation. Among his accomplishments at the SSHRC were organizing its successful public awareness campaign, creating a new board of directors, extending the Council's links with national and international organizations and helping establish linkages between the academic and non-governmental fields.

Prior to his work at the SSHRC, Mr. Lauzière acted as Executive Director of the Social Science Federation of Canada, where he oversaw the organization's research projects and programs, staff, strategic planning and budget. The SSFC is a non-profit organization comprised of professional organizations and Canadian universities and is dedicated to strengthening the links between research and public policy.

Mr. Lauzière was born in Winnipeg and lives in Aylmer, Québec. He is fluent in both French and English and holds an MA and an Honours BA in history from the University of Ottawa.
