DIVERSITY IN SOCIAL POLICY
As communities across Canada become more ethnically, racially and culturally diverse, social policy development becomes more complex. Individuals involved in shaping social policy need an ever-expanding toolbox of skills and approac hes for policy to truly be inclusive. In an effort to provide an environment for professional development and institutional capacity building that facilitates diverse interests in social policy, the Canadian Council on Social Development (CCSD) hosted a seminar entitled Inclusive Social Policy Development: Building Diversity-Affirming Communities. The event was supported by a grant from the Multicultural Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage and hosted in partnership with the School of Social Work at Carleton University. Proceedings took place on February 13 to 15, 1997, at the Lord Elgin Hotel in Ottawa. Over 55 representatives from government and the non-profit sector, working in communities across the country, participated in the seminar. To find out more about the seminar, hit the links below for an agenda of the seminar, biographies of the seminar speakers and workshop leaders, and a list of seminar participants (including E-mail addresses). A report on the seminar is scheduled for rel ease in September 1997, and will be posted somewhere at this site. Please contact Kevin Lee, research associate at the CCSD, if you have any questions about this project.
