News Release: CCSD Greets Clara’s Big Ride in Arnprior June 30th
June 26, 2014 – The CCSD’s President and CEO, Peggy Taillon, is delighted to announce the CCSD’s participation in welcoming Clara Hughes as she arrives at her final stop before the Capital on Canada Day, in Arnprior on June 30, 2014.
Clara’s Big Ride to end the stigma associated with mental illness has taken her on a ride across Canada over 110 days, through 12,000 kilometres and 95 communities. Canadians everywhere have shown heartfelt support for Clara and this cause. The Arnprior event promises to be an exceptional step in this journey.
Clara will arrive at 5:30 p.m. accompanied by His Excellency, the Governor General of Canada, David Johnston, Her Excellency Mrs. Sharon Johnston, and Arnprior Mayor David Reid.
“Stigma is fed by fear and fear leads to silence. Clara has helped Canadians across the county break the silence and see just how many are suffering from mental health challenges,” said Peggy Taillon. “She has shown us how the stigma surrounding mental health issues impedes recovery. That’s why I am so proud to have been working with the mental health and addictions professionals in Renfrew County. They want to change that. And they can show you how.”
Peggy will share some thoughts about mental health and addictions, a field she has been involved in for 30 years. She will be joined by Lise Laframboise, Renfrew County’s Executive Director of Pathways Alcohol and Drug Treatment Services, a partner of MacKay Manor and Addictions Treatment Service, and Mireille Delorme, Director of Mental Health Service for Renfrew County, a program administered by the Pembroke Regional Hospital. Lise and Mireille will make an announcement to share their vision of a stigma-free Renfrew County. Honoured guests and the audience will be invited to join in and make this vision a reality.

CCSD is a not-for-profit organization that partners and collaborates with all sectors (not-for-profit, philanthropic, government and business) and communities to advance solutions to today’s toughest social challenges. As a neutral, non-partisan, non-governmental and independent organization, the CCSD believes challenges can be solved through a deliberative approach that includes all partners, ensuring the end user is part of framing the issues and the solutions. Simply put, society designed the problem – whether inequality, homelessness, discrimination, climate change, to name a few – but we also have the power to design the solution.
