Wrap Up & Closing Remarks

Friday March 28, 2003

Louis Grignon of HRDC remarked on the value of gathering together practitioners, community people, policy analysts, and researchers for a dialogue. He identified a number of themes that had emerged during discussion, including the definition of inclusion, material well-being, the labour market, diversity, groups at risk, the role of communities, and the intergenerational transmission of exclusion.

CCSD President Marcel Lauzière highlighted some considerations to keep in mind for future research. He called for “courageous conversations”, work done in partnership, qualitative and empirical research, respect for different methodologies and perspectives, access to data, a level playing field for all, including the voluntary sector, dissemination of research findings, and a commitment to ask hard questions about past research and policies.
