- Growing Up in North America:
Child Well-Being in Canada, the United States and Mexico
A tri-national research team, including CCSD researchers Katherine Scott and Louise Hanvey, is contributing to a new knowledge base about children across the continent including measures of child well-being and the contexts in which families live.
Growing Up in North America is the first paper in the Children in North America series. The 40 page report and accompanying reference material are now available online.

Wayne Helgason, incoming Chairman of the CCSD Board of Directors, conducted a workshop on the Canada Social Transfer at the ACSW Conference Social Work Matters, in Edmonton, Alberta (March 23-25, 2006).
Katherine Scott, CCSD's Vice President of Research, presented at the Aboriginal Policy Research Conference held in Ottawa, March 21-23. Principal partners in organizing this event were the University of Western Ontario and the National Association of Friendship Centers, with support from other national Aboriginal organizations and 19 federal government departments. Katherine presented on the subject of determinants of Aboriginal employment.
Best Start Conference
Louise Hanvey, project director of the CCSD's Progress of Canada's Children and Youth was keynote speaker at the Best Start conference in Toronto(January 16-18, 2006). Louise's keynote featured some highlights from the soon-to-be-released edition of the Progress report.
Finding Common Ground: Working Together to Reduce Domestic Violence
Dr. Ekuwa Smith, one of CCSD's senior researchers, presented at the conference Finding Common Ground: Working Together to Reduce Domestic Violence on November 30. Ekuwa's presentation was entitled Beyond Dialogue: Taking Action to End Violence Against Immigrant Women.
Diverse Voices: Family Violence Conference
Dr. Ekuwa Smith presented at the Diverse Voices conference in Edmonton on December 6th. The 2005 Diverse Voices is a conference that considers the impact of family violence across generations, from Aboriginal and multicultural perspectives.

Canada Social Transfer - The Political Moment is Now!
The Ottawa Council of Women hosted a public meeting about the Canada Social Transfer at the Ottawa Public Library Auditorium on October 18th, 12:00-1:15 pm.
